A Week Full Of Temptations – And Victories!

in Daily Update

Last week was an extremely difficult week for me, in both weight loss and debt repayment! I continued with my plan to eat salads, but faced very strong temptation almost every evening. It took so much strength, energy, and discipline to be healthy – it was as if I was under attack or something!

Unfortunately, I did give in one evening  . I had to meet a writing deadline, I was stuck in traffic on the way home and got in late, I was extremely exhausted (I guess that’s what happens when you only sleep for 3 hours), and my wife wasn’t feeling well. So, instead of making a salad for dinner when I got home, I laid in the bed while talking to my wife and fighting the urge to take a nap. After nearly 2 hours of fighting with myself, I gave in and ordered pizza.

All of my evenings went the same way, except, this was the only time that I had given in. Overall, I think I had a great week! Every time I was tempted, I just kept both of my goals in front of me – to lose 100lbs, and to pay off debt (over $100k worth). That’s why I am disappointed in my moment of weakness. My goals didn’t change – I should have still kept them in front of me, and considered the big picture.

One thing that I am proud of about the past week, is that I haven’t had to deal with food waste! Normally, I will buy a bunch of bags of salads and greens, eat about half of them, and end up throwing the rest out once it spoils. However, we haven’t had to throw anything out, and I am really sticking to having salads everyday.

Also, we recently received bad news about my wife’s vehicle, and were stuck asking ourselves the question, “Should I fix my car, or junk it?”. I’ll write about our ultimate decision later this week.

This was definitely one of the toughest weeks that I’ve had since I seriously began trying to lose weight at the beginning of the summer. I think my record for the week was probably 10-1, which is actually excellent – unless you’re a college football team!

Speaking of teams, some of my favorite teams had huge victories last week. First, the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series in 7 games. They won one of the most amazing World Series matches of all-time, with their come-from-behind victory (three times) in game six!!! Then, both Notre Dame and Michigan had impressive, blowout wins on Saturday! That made me feel a little better about my one failure.

I still have been going forward with my pushups, but I’m not making as much progress as I would like. I have a plan to kick my training up a notch or 10 – which I will reveal once I officially kick off the challenge on the website.

For all of those people who let me know that they want to take part in the push ups challenge, I should have the final rules, deadlines, and form to you by tomorrow morning (November 1).

We all give in sometimes. We all have temptations. But hey, we all human and it is nice sometimes to indulge. By the way eating salads all week would be rough on anyone. You need protein and some healthy fats. are you getting those? Because if your salads are not satisfying you will have cravings for sweets and other food all the time. Do you eat eggs? I eat eggs almost every day. :) Enjoy your pizza and don’t beat yourself up!

I find it easier, if I maintain a reasonable diet vs. extreme. I could probably eat salads everyday, but most people cannot. Switch things up so you can control the urges easier.
I lost 35-40 lbs about 30+ years ago. I managed to keep it off, by exercising and eating good satisfying healthy meals. I even eat burgers, pizza and cake occasionally.
Good luck and don’t get discouraged!

I really like your honesty. Also everybody hits a bump once in a while, but you still see your goals and get right back on the horse. You can’t beat yourself up about it.

Keep up the intensity. It is OK to have some pizza once in a while. Otherwise, you might find yourself on a binge. Just keep taking it one day at a time.

Thanks for the self-revelation… it was great to hear your true voice and share your experiences. In a more trivial manner, you know we all will have temptations now that all that Halloween candy is sitting around the house :)

No one is perfect so don’t expect that from yourself. We all slip up sometimes but what matters is that we get back on track and move on. Remember too that we are allowed to slip up and let loose sometimes. It is good for us, so don’t beat yourself up too much. Pizza won’t hurt you once in a while.

Giving in once isn’t all bad. We’re all only human. As long as it doesn’t become a regular event which I doubt you’ll allow. Seems you’re driven by your goals and good about holding yourself accountable. Just have to keep on truckin.

I admire your strength. It has been a struggle for me as well but I am proud to say that I have been doing great. I lost a lot of weight these past weeks. The more I successful avoid being tempted, the more I become more confident in reaching my goals.
