Fat Guy Follies #1 – Smoothie Video, New Clothes, And Broken Equipment

in Daily Update

There were a couple of small things that happened over the weekend that I wanted to share with you, but they didn’t warrant an individual post. So I decided to put them all together in 1 post.

Our Juicing/Smoothie Video

First, I did a video this weekend showing all of the vegetables that we are able to consume each day as part of our modified juice fast. I actually walk you through making the smoothie that we have every day, mainly to offset some of the dangers of doing a juice fast (and it tastes pretty good as well ;-)).

You can click here in order to watch the video on YouTube directly.

As you can see, we try to put a lot of thought into the ingredients of our smoothie (sometimes we put spinach in as well), but we are definitely open to suggestions/questions/comments about what we are doing.

New Clothes?

If you have read any of my weigh ins, you already know that I don’t want to purchase any new clothing before I hit my ultimate weight-loss goal. I have already lost 40 lbs, but I probably have another 40 or 50 to go! It would be a waste of money if I purchase clothes for my current size, and then have to do it all over again in a few months.

However, more and more people have been commenting on my extremely baggy clothing, so I know that I have to do something. Throughout all of this, there was one thing that I had forgotten…I didn’t gain 100 lbs overnight! That means, that I have a good amount of clothing from when I was this size (on my way up), that I stopped wearing because they no longer fit.

This weekend my wife took out some of my old clothes from the back of the closet for me to try on. Below is a picture of what I was able to fit comfortably, and will now be adding back into my wardrobe:

My Old Clothes That Now Fit

Click on the picture in order to see a larger version. What I just now realize is that we forgot to put a few of the shirts that I had tried on earlier in the day, into this picture. I think there should be at least 3 or 4 more dress shirts included! Also, I had a few shirts that I could get away with wearing, but I don’t want to until I lose another inch or two from my belly.

I Don’t Know My Own Strength

Since I’ve been doing the 2nd DVD in the Debbie Siebersโ€™ Slim in 6 series (Ramp it Up), I have been using resistance bands for her strength training section. I don’t like resistance bands because it always feels as though I am going to rip them or something. Also, it is impossible to track your progress or even be consistent from day to day (unless you somehow mark the bands for each exercise).

Well, guess what happened the other day…

Broken Resistance Band

Take a look at the middle portion of the top of the picture. Do you see that tiny piece that is not connected to the band? That’s right, I broke the thickest resistance band that we own. I don’t care too much, since it now gives me a chance to use dumbbells instead.

I actually purchased a pair of adjustable dumbbells, and I will be creating a couple of videos showing them in use.

One of my best friends and biggest supporters (a.k.a. My Kelly) has lost nearly 17 lbs in 6 weeks! Please take a few seconds to show her some support and encouragement.

Jai Catalano finished his 2 months of Insanity! Go over and see his transformation.

Another friend of mine (Mbole) has lost 40 lbs over the past 5 1/2 months! She doesn’t have a website, but she has agreed to tell her story and share some pictures on this site.

Great post Khaleef! Keep up the great work!

Fat Guy June 18, 2012 at 10:18 am

Thanks Kelly! It took a lot for me to post a video of myself, but it seemed to have opened the floodgates. lol

Great idea to get out some of the old clothes. Stinks you broke the band but it could have just been old and have worn inconsistently. Keep up the good work.

Fat Guy June 18, 2012 at 10:19 am

Thanks! If I include the pieces that I tried on earlier in the day, there are probably about 10 – 12 “new” items in my rotation now. To be honest, I hate resistance bands, so it was a good excuse to switch to the dumbbells.

That was smart to keep your old clothes, I don’t like to keep stuff around so I probably would have thrown it out! You could always check Craigslist for new bands or dumbbells. I keep putting off buying shoes for cycling class because they cost $100+ but I was reminded to check craigslist & they have some for $20! Dave also wants to get an exercise ball to replace his chair at work…$10 on craigslist ๐Ÿ™‚

Fat Guy June 18, 2012 at 10:53 am

I tried on Craigslist, but the ones that I want were not available. I did pick up a cheaper set of adjustable dumbbells (I did an unboxing here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBxQsT8Er1Y&list=UUNMvNVlnN5nCqdKRRhJt1JQ&index=5&feature=plcp) to start with.

It sounds like you guys have made out great saving money on Craigslist! When you say “replace” his chair, does that mean that he will sit on the ball all day???

Jessica @ Budget For Health June 18, 2012 at 11:01 am

yes sir! I bought one for $10 and pumped it up to try it out. I had a few days before I was back at the health department so the ball was hanging around our living room. I found Dave using it any time he sat at the table, I’m surprised he didn’t use it while we ate dinner! He’s pretty shy and isn’t sure if he wants to draw attention to himself at work, but I mentioned it would be a great ministry opportunity since he’d likely develop new relationships from it!

Fat Guy June 19, 2012 at 3:27 pm

Is it better for your back/posture? I never heard of that before.

You are right about it helping him to develop new relationships and perhaps share the gospel. That’s such a great mindset to have!

Jessica @ Budget for Health June 20, 2012 at 6:44 am

I’ve read good things about it. Day 1 was yesterday but I only used it half the day because my entire body was sore from my workout the night before. I just get ancy when I have to sit at work so it’s more fun to move around in. A lot of people have stopped my desk to talk about it!

Losing weight and keeping it off is one of life’s biggest challenges. Losing it over a longer period time means it is now a habit. Congratulations and keep it up.

Fat Guy June 18, 2012 at 11:45 am

Thanks KC! I really want this to be a way of life…that’s why I’m glad that I didn’t use any fad programs.

Khaleef I can’t believe how slim your face looks from when I last saw you! I am so excited your journey has been going so well.
I have been trying to change my lifestyle and have lost 10 pounds so far. My ideal is another 22 pounds, to be pre-wedding weight.

Fat Guy June 18, 2012 at 12:32 pm

You can really see a difference? That’s great to hear…thanks!

You’re 30% to your goal already, so it sounds like you are doing the right things. Please keep me updated on your progress…maybe you can write a guest post about what you are doing! ๐Ÿ˜‰
