My Week 43 Weigh In – CURSE YOU DENVER!!!

Weigh In

My last weigh in post was actually 2 weeks ago. Last Monday I was still in Denver for the Financial Blogger Conference (you can read my recap about FinCon12 here).

We had a great time in Denver meeting new people and hanging out with some who we already knew; however, being at the conference definitely threw my schedule off.

For the most part, I was able to stick with intermittent fasting (except for that one evening 😳 ). However, I definitely had more carbs than usual, and my macros were completely thrown off. I actually didn’t overeat on any of the days, but as I said, my macros were thrown off by the increase in carbs.

Also, we didn’t realize that there was a refrigerator in our hotel room until we were there for 3 full days! That meant that we had to eat out for each meal for about 60% of the trip. Fortunately, the conference provided lunch on Friday and Saturday, and we weren’t eating breakfast because of IF. We snacked on protein bars and other little things that we packed, but not knowing about the fridge really hurt our eating while there.

I didn’t bring any of my workout DVDs with me on the trip, but the hotel did have a great track on the roof of the gym. Each morning I met up with Ashley from Money Talks Coaching at around 7:15am, and did a combination of running and walking for close to an hour. We got in about 5 miles each day!

It was very difficult to run in the high altitude. In fact, I got winded from my dynamic stretching routine, and I was only able to get in a quick 10-minute workout once after a run. It was good to be out there with Ashley, Cait from Blonde on a Budget, Andrea from Smart Money Chicks, and of course my wonderful wife!

Since we didn’t get back home until early Tuesday morning (around 12:30am, I think), I didn’t go back to physical therapy until Wednesday. On Saturday, I woke up to the worst shoulder pain yet! I wasn’t even able to do a cardio workout because of it, so I decided to run a 10k instead (you can see the details of the run, here).

I am typing this up on Tuesday evening and my shoulder still hurts like crazy. I go to the doctor tomorrow, and I will probably beg for an MRI to make sure it is not something more serious than impingement syndrome.

In other news, I have lost so much weight that I can’t fit one of my suits anymore. Also, one that used to be too small now fits and is actually a little too baggy! As you might have guessed, I made a short video about it (either click here or see below):

I have been consistently making videos of my meals, workouts, weigh ins, and other things that come up regarding health and nutrition – so make sure you are subscribed to my YouTube channel. ;-)

My wife and I have entered a weight loss challenge on YouTube, and our second weigh in was Saturday. Therefore, I am simply using that number as my week 43 weight, rather than weigh myself again 2 days later. So this video will be pretty short and it will also include my wife!

Two weeks ago I was able to get down to 234 lbs by losing 7.8 lbs. I went into this week expecting a large gain, since I was so thrown off by both Denver and my shoulder over the past 2 weeks. Here are the numbers (if you want to see the details for all weeks, just click here)…

Week 4– 276.4

Week 8 – 266.6

Week 12 – 258.6

Week 20 – 258.0

Week 28 – 248.0

Week 33 – 250.2

Week 37 – 246.0

Week 41 – 234.0

Week 43 – 240.0!!!

I can’t believe that I’m not upset about a 6 lb gain. I knew that something like this would happen, and I am hoping that the sodium-laced restaurant food had something to do with it. Hopefully, we will get back on track soon and I will get back into the 230s.

I will let you know what the doctor has to say about my shoulder – let’s hope that I come back with an appointment for an MRI.

My 43-week weight loss total is now at 47.0 lbs, and 52.0 lbs from my all-time high.

Congrats on the weight loss. I think the 6 pound gain is just a momentary uptick, and it’ll be back down in the 230s soon. I just actually got back into the 230s today as a matter of fact, first time I’ve been less than 240 in probably 5-6 years.

Hopefully I’ll be able to make it to FINCON next year, and we can do a workout together!

Thanks Peter! Since I still haven’t been able to work out, it may take a while for me to get back down in the 230s.

I know that you must feel great being at a 5-6 year low…congratulations!!!

Nice to meet you at FinCon. I wouldn’t worry too much about the gain. You are right about all the sodium in restaurant food. Next week you should be back on track.

It was nice to meet you and your husband as well, Melissa. It is amazing to see how you can duplicate the restaurant meals with about 1/3 of the sodium.

Congratulations on the weight loss, that is amazing ! Good for you. And the weight gain is like you said, probably just water retention from eating salty food! I definitely find that happens to myself as well.

Eh, don’t let it bug you, goals and progress in life all have these ups and downs. And so far you’ve just been going down, so it was high time for you to have a little up. And since you’re a dtermined dude, you’ll just keep at it until you’re back down again.

By the way, that hotel track thing on the roof is aweeeeesome!

I loved being able to run on the roof…it was crazy! Yeah, I am definitely looking at this as a minor bump down a long road. As long as I stay on track with everything, I’ll be happy.

Sodium will indeed to that to you…so I would give yourself a week or two and see where you end up. Keep rockin’ the fitness!

Thanks Travis! My shoulder has gotten worse, so I haven’t really worked out since the conference, but I’m trying to keep my eating in check so I won’t continue in the wrong direction.

You got in 5 miles/day of walking and running! That’s a pretty good committment and way better than nothing. I’m not worried about that 6 pounds. It helps that you have such a great wife by your side to encourage you!

I’m impressed you guys got up every morning to work out at 7:15am! I guess it helps if you guys don’t go out til 2am right? 🙂

Nothing is in a straight line, so don’t worry! I gained 8lbs in 2.5 weeks going on vacation, and that is a lot for me. I’m back down though after 2.5 weeks, even w/ Fincon. Being sick helps a lot! haha

Thanks! I know that it’s going slower because I am just changing up and becoming healthy (rather than doing something extreme), but at least I know that I can maintain this for the rest of my life!

Thank goodness I wasn’t try IF last weekend lol. I don’t think all of those beers would have helped my goal!
