I know, I know. You’re all wondering what happened to the week 5 update, right? Well, I was so busy with a lot of things that came up during the week (including the craziness with the blizzard and sub-zero temperatures) that I wasn’t able to set aside time to write a post. However, I did record a video.
Last week I weighed in at 239.0lbs – up 0.2 from the previous week. I wasn’t disappointed at all because it was only 6 days, and I actually lost 7lbs over the previous 2 weeks. As long as my behavior was under control, the number on the scale doesn’t really mean much.
Anyway, now that you know that I didn’t skip last week, let’s move on to the current update:
A Recap Of The Past Week
My heel started to feel better last week, so I was able to make it to the gym a couple of days. I spent a full session working on my deadlift technique and even got in some sumo deadlifts. After that, I did about an hour combined on the treadmill and recumbent bike.
I was able to add a couple of miles onto my total for the year, but I am still behind the necessary pace to meet my 500-mile challenge – I expected to fall behind during the winter and then catch up once the weather warms up.
I am doing a powerlifting challenge this week! A fellow powerlifter on YouTube has challenged us to perform the 3 major lifts (deadlifts, squats, and bench press) using our body weight. Whichever one of us hits the most reps will win! I don’t expect to win, or even come close to the top, but it will be nice to see what I can do, and also get more involved in the powerlifting community.
This was the first week in which I struggled some with food. A couple of days I was actually hit hard by cravings for certain things (burritos, nachos, chocolate, etc.) and I had to find ways to deal with them. One of the times I sent a friend a text and she suggested that I make my own version at home. A day later, my wife hit me with the same suggestion. I posted my creations on my Instagram page (you are following me, right?).
Fortunately, we purchased a lot of Quest bars during a huge Black Friday sale, and that helped to satisfy my chocolate cravings. Unfortunately, I did answer the call from my coworker’s huge M&M dispenser a few times during the week. 😳
I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with Mexican food, chocolate, or M&Ms, and I welcome it all into my diet (as long as it fits within my macros). However, the moment that I lose control and throw away my plan for the day in order to satisfy a craving, is when I get upset with myself. I don’t ever want to be in a position where I feel out of control because of food!
Week 6 Weigh In?
This morning was one of the craziest that I’ve had in a long time. I didn’t get to sleep until about 3am and my entire morning was thrown off. Because of that, I didn’t even get to do a weigh in. I don’t know what my weight is right now, and I’m not too bothered by that.
Normally, I would just weigh myself on Tuesday and wait to post, but putting this blog post up actually serves two purposes for me. First, I am in a mastermind group and posting this is one of the goals that I set – I have to pay a penalty if I don’t hit all my goals for the week.
Second, I want to force myself to stay on a schedule and be consistent with my blog posts. Last week was the perfect indication of what can happen when I don’t force myself to adhere to a schedule (I didn’t even post a weigh in). Even if I can’t weigh myself on Monday morning, I can still give you guys a report/update on how my week went and if I was able to stay disciplined.
I am excited about this, and I hope to keep up this momentum – not necessarily with the amount of weight, but just the consistency of my actions!
