My wife wasn’t feeling well today and I needed to stay home with her. I was able to get a lot of work done for our taxes – yes, I provide professional tax preparation and I still haven’t completed our return yet 😳 ! Hopefully, I will have them completed by this weekend.
I still haven’t been able to develop a time management program that will help me work out consistently while keeping up with my other obligations; so I don’t have much of an update to give you on that front. I have been able to catch up on some other things, so I hope to have a better report for you very soon.
I will begin to use my alternate workout plan until I am able to sort through this busy time! Also, since the weather is finally getting to be consistent, I may start jogging or running in the mornings (umm…it may take a while to build up to the running). Are you ready Josh?!?!
We are moving soon (hopefully), and so we have decided to try and eat everything that we have on hand. We are hoping not to let any food go to waste, and so we are making a very strong effort to empty out the deep freezer and the cabinets before we move. This should really help us to reduce our spending on groceries over the next few months.
Of course, we will still have to buy some groceries (like wraps, fruit, vegetables, etc.), but we are not trying to build up a surplus as in the past. Once our current stash is gone, we will only buy enough food for the next week or two (unless we come across an amazing deal!
To be honest, not much has changed after wondering if I fell off the wagon! Due to our schedules and other things (sometimes just me being lazy), we have been forced to eat out a few times this month 😥 (which is worse than damaged money – at least you can turn that in). However, this week we have been making a strong effort to avoid this – which has been helped by our attempt to use all the food that we have at home before buying more! Today was a great day in that area…
We ate soup this morning, little fake-chicken nuggets (made of vegetables or soy or something like that), and then we had to figure out dinner. I was working hard on our finances and taxes and didn’t notice the time until I got really hungry. Since I had to continue working, and my wife didn’t feel well, I suggested everyone’s favorite…pizza (which is better than everything on this list of popular food)!
My darling wife then marched into the kitchen and made rice. Then she warmed up a can of Libby’s Corned Beef and some peas, and we had a delicious dinner!
We had enough for both of us to have dinner, and then we pack lunch for both of us as well. I just went and made a $30 payment to one of our creditors, since I wanted to spend that on pizza tonight! No, I wasn’t planning on buying a $30 pizza (unless it comes with a bluetooth headset or something), but that includes a tip for the driver, mozzarella sticks, and a sub for my wife (since she hates reheated pizza).
Sending off an immediate payment to our creditor is one of the tricks that we have to help us fight off temptation and also to pay down our debt faster! I would do the same thing if the potential splurge was a fancy gadget like an Apple iPhone (anybody want to buy Fat Guy an iPhone?).
We figure that if we are going to magically find money – which wasn’t originally in our budget – to use on eating out, then we can also come up with that same money to pay down our debt. I will write a little more about this and other things that we do to help us in a future article.
I am also inspired by other people who are able to make these types of permanent changes in their life. Jackie’s post, “how I finally cut back on eating out“, shows just how easy it can be to develop a healthy (and financially prudent) lifestyle!
Things have been going great with our church and we are really feeling challenged and encouraged to grow spiritually! I am making it a point to cut off my work at night – no matter how much I have left to do – and pray and have bible study time with my wife! It has been such a wonderful and rewarding experience (it always is). This is why I hate when I put other things first!!!
Speaking of devotion, I’m going to end this article so I can get in there and read and pray with my wife! Have a great night!
