Since this weekend went by so fast, I decided to write about both days in a single post. For the record, this represented days 10 and 11 of the first Fat Guy Challenge, and Days 3 & 4 of our 2nd week!
After the first 7 days, I managed to lose 7.6lbs, without exercising at all. Hopefully, the results will be more dramatic once I add my daily workouts.
***[See how I did on the first 9 days of the challenge] – You can read our motivation for doing this, as well as the details of the challenge at the first link above. Our main goal is to lose 25lbs combined by June 4th, or there will be severe consequences! I am responsible for 15 of those pounds!***
Here is my assessment of day 10:
For the first week of the challenge, we decided to drastically reduce our carbohydrate intake to under 20 grams each day. Thankfully, that restriction was only in place for the first week. Now we are taking that amount up to 60 grams per day, with two “carb load” days each week.
Since I had a very late Friday night – I was up until about 3am writing articles and doing other things connected to my business and websites – I woke up late on Saturday morning (around 11 or 11:30). My wife woke up around 12 and made “lunch” that consisted of scrambled eggs and turkey bacon.
Then, as I mentioned in my Day 9 update, we went out for dinner with a group of friends in the evening. While we were talking, we discovered that it was another friend’s birthday, and there would be dessert at their house later. So, we decided to make Saturday our “carb load” day instead of Sunday.
So, for dinner I had steak with bleu cheese on it, mixed vegetables, and mashed potatoes. Then we went to our friend’s house and had dessert. I had a small piece of angel food cake (I think that’s what it was called) with strawberries and raspberries. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t have many carbohydrates for my carb load day, so I went out and bought a snickers and reese’s cups.
I drank a good amount of water yesterday, I almost met my goal of a gallon per day, but since I got the late start with breakfast, it was impossible.
Today wasn’t nearly as eventful as yesterday. Before church I had a banana. Then after church we had home group (a time for bible study, fellowship, and dinner at the home of a member), where I ate chili, a little rice, cheddar cheese, and a lot of salad.
Then, after singing and bible study, they broke out the desserts. I can’t even tell you what they served, because I refused to go look! I did not want to be tempted in any way.
I am having my first 32 oz of water as I type this article (it’s almost 9pm), so I know that I will not come near my goal today.
As I told you above, my day started off so late on Saturday, because I was up really late on Friday. Once I woke up, I knew that I wouldn’t have a chance to workout. My next goal is to get started tomorrow morning.
Yesterday was a planned day of eating out, and we still didn’t even have 60 grams of carbs at the restaurant! There was not much of a temptation to eat anything unhealthy, until we headed home. In a desperate attempt to get more carbs – because I didn’t want to have a carb load day with only about 100 grams – I went to a convenience store and bought 2 candy bars and milk!
So far, I really haven’t felt much temptation to have any food that I shouldn’t have – even the candy bars were more about just getting some quick carbs.
