Yesterday was the 15th day of the first Fat Guy Challenge, and the 1st day of our 3rd week! This also means that I weighed myself again.
After the first week, I managed to lose 7.6lbs, without exercising at all. I wasn’t able to exercise at all during the 2nd week either, and I am hoping that my weight doesn’t go in the wrong direction as a result.
***[See how I did on the first 2 weeks of the challenge] – You can read our motivation for doing this, as well as the details of the challenge at the first link above. Our main goal is to lose 25lbs combined by June 4th, or there will be severe consequences! I am responsible for 15 of those pounds!***
Here is my assessment of day 15:
For the first week of the challenge, we decided to drastically reduce our carbohydrate intake to under 20 grams each day. Thankfully, that restriction was only in place for the first week. Now we are taking that amount up to 60 grams per day, with two “carb load” days each week.
When I left for work, I planned to be out all day – going straight to church for our leadership class after work. Therefore, I packed dinner along with my lunch and snacks.
For breakfast, I had a serving of almonds and a lot of water. Then for lunch, I had a spinach salad with olives, almond slivers, and feta cheese.
I ate the rest of my almonds in the afternoon and then I left to go to church. Yesterday was one of our celebrated carb load days, but I don’t think I was really prepared for it. The point is to have 60 grams of carbs by dinner, and then have a meal containing lots of carbs in the evening.
Even though it was a carb load day, I packed some of the beef cubes (that sounds better than “chunks”, right?) and the last portion of the stuffed chicken. However, my wife went over a friend’s house during the day, and she brought to me some cheese & crackers, strawberries, and a slice of [healthy] cake after work. So, I ate that instead of what I packed for dinner.
However, unlike Wednesday evening, where I only had a cup of tea once I got home late from church, last night I decided to make a mini sandwich out of the beef. The bread that I used only contained around 17 grams of carbs, so it wasn’t that bad!
I drank about a gallon of water yesterday, and it wasn’t that difficult because I got such an early start!
Yesterday, I woke up around 6:15 and weighed myself. I was disappointed with what the scale said, so I decided to get in a quick workout. I did the Debbie Siebers’ Slim In 6 workout DVD, because it is only 25 minutes long. You may remember, that I started this routine before, and was extremely sore after each time!
I felt great while going through the workout, and I had more stamina and strength than I did when I first tried this DVD. However, that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a challenge! My heart was racing so fast during parts of the workout, and my legs and shoulders got such a workout!
When I went to work, I had so much energy, and it lasted throughout the day. If this is how I’m going to feel physically after each workout, then sign me up!

There was no temptation at all to eat out yesterday! I just keep thinking about the fact that we have to pay off debt! I ate what my wife brought to me, and if I didn’t have that, I had great dinner prepared. We are eating healthier and saving money in the process!
We just took care of business and God blessed our efforts to be disciplined. <— I am hoping to be able to write that phrase every day of this challenge!
This is the moment that a lot of people have been waiting for – okay, “a lot of people” is really about 5 or 6…but I’m sure they’re anxious! I was very encouraged after dropping 7.6 lbs after the first week of the challenge; although, I knew it would be impossible to match that going forward.
I weighed myself Thursday morning, and after reading 282.4 the previous week, the scale came back yesterday and told me that I weigh…
This means that I gained 1lb during the 2nd week of the challenge 😥 😳 😡 !!! Actually, I’m not too upset with this result, because I hadn’t worked out at all during the first 2 weeks.
My 2-week total for weight loss is now 6.6lbs. I have to lose 15lbs by June 4th, or I have to giveaway all of my clothes that don’t fit! This week was a major set back, and I am now behind schedule…let’s hope I can recover.
