Yesterday was the 28th day of the first Fat Guy Challenge, and the last day of the 4th week! No, that doesn’t mean that the challenge is over…we still have 3 more days!
After the first three weeks, I managed to lose 9.6lbs, with only minimal exercise. But I managed to work out for most of the last week.
***[See how I did on each day during the first 3 weeks of the challenge] – You can read our motivation for doing this, as well as the details of the challenge at the first link above. Our main goal is to lose 25lbs combined by June 4th, or there will be severe consequences! I am responsible for 15 of those pounds!***
Here is my assessment of day 28:
For the first week of the challenge, we decided to drastically reduce our carbohydrate intake to under 20 grams each day. Thankfully, that restriction was only in place for the first week. Then we moved that amount up to 60 grams per day, with two “carb load” days each week.
Now, we have decided to count calories, and to keep track of certain macro and micro nutrients as well. I think that this is a better overall approach, and it will ensure that we are not going too far in any particular direction.
Since I went to bed really late on Tuesday night, I woke up late Wednesday morning – around 9am or so. My wife had to leave to take care of something, so I didn’t exercise right away. I did make an egg & cheese sandwich that was 318 calories and contained 22 grams of protein!
Then for lunch I ate a frozen dinner (280 calories). I didn’t eat again until I came back home from prayer meeting, and had fruit after my 2nd workout of the day. I had less than 1,000 calories at that point, so I ate chicken stuffed with cream cheese (524 calories, 34 grams of protein, and only 16 grams of carbs).
I drank a total of 140 oz of water – the vitamins and supplements really help! Also, I can drink up to 32 oz with each workout, so it hasn’t been to hard to drink a gallon or more of water each day!
Another day in which I worked out twice! We did the Leslie Sansone’s Walk Slim – 4 Fast Miles DVD in the late afternoon, and the 46 minutes weren’t that bad.
In the evening, we did the Debbie Siebers’ Slim In 6 workout, and it was a challenge as usual, but I felt great doing it! The only problem with working out so late, is that I have too much energy at a time when I should be sleeping.
It’s 1:20am right now, so I hope I can go to sleep after writing this!
That makes 8 workouts in 5 days…I hope I can keep this up!
There was no temptation to eat out at all. In fact, I had to eat something at night, just to be sure that I don’t eat too few calories and slow down my metabolism. I don’t want to lose this challenge because I lacked discipline during the last week!
We just took care of business and God blessed our efforts to be disciplined. <— I am hoping to be able to write that phrase every day of this challenge!
