Yesterday was the 30th day of the first Fat Guy Challenge, and the second day of our “overtime” period. I probably need to remind you that the challenge is 31 days long, and it started on May 5th.
After the first four weeks, I managed to lose 10.4lbs, and I was able to get in a few 2-workout days during the 4th week!
***[See how I did on each day during the first 4 weeks of the challenge] – You can read our motivation for doing this, as well as the details of the challenge at the first link above. Our main goal is to lose 25lbs combined by June 4th, or there will be severe consequences! I am responsible for 15 of those pounds!***
Here is my assessment of day 30:
For the first week of the challenge, we decided to drastically reduce our carbohydrate intake to under 20 grams each day. Thankfully, that restriction was only in place for the first week. Then we moved that amount up to 60 grams per day, with two “carb load” days each week.
Now, we have decided to count calories, and to keep track of certain macro and micro nutrients as well. I think that this is a better overall approach, and it will ensure that we are not going too far in any particular direction.
After my morning workout, I had Special K2O Strawberry Kiwi Powder, and then I ate baked salmon with mixed vegetables. I wanted to make sure I got enough fiber, so I sprinkled ground flaxseed (which we buy whole and grind using a hands-free coffee grinder) over the meal. It wasn’t good at all. Flax seed is a little oily and becomes gel-like when it comes into contact with moisture.
Then I had a mixture of green and mint teas, along with some Benefiber.
Around 3:30pm, I had a stuffed chicken breast (with cream cheese) and a salad. That was actually the last thing that I ate yesterday – we had to run errands in the afternoon/evening.
But I did have the Green Vibrance Powder before I left.
Considering all of my supplements and meals, I had a total of 708 calories!
I drank a total of 84 oz of water – a little below average, but still not bad!
Since we had a lot to do yesterday, we didn’t do the Leslie Sansone’s Walk At Home – 5 Mile Walk DVD, but we choose to do the 2 Mile Walk instead. I still broke a sweat and got my heart rate up – holding weights really helped.
Once we got home in the evening, we did our normal Debbie Siebers’ Slim In 6 workout, and it was still hard. I thought we would be a little more used to it by now. All of those lunges and squats and ballet moves are like torture to my legs!
If anyone is keeping track, we’ve been able to do 12 workouts in 7 days!
There was no temptation to eat out at all. I even mentioned to my wife that yesterday was a perfect night for us to go out to eat. We were already out of the house, we didn’t have anything “prepared” for dinner, and we needed to talk about an important decision.
In the past, that would have automatically meant dining out; but not during this challenge! We have two main goals, to lose weight and pay off debt!
We just took care of business and God blessed our efforts to be disciplined. <— I am hoping to be able to write that phrase every day of this challenge!
After Friday, there remains only 1 day left in this challenge! Do you think I stand a chance?
