I am a little disappointed that I don’t have anyone to talk about today, because that means you have to put up with my boring life for the entire post!
Yesterday was the fourth day of the first Fat Guy Challenge (see, I didn’t even mention the hilarious Bill Cosby video I included in the link). Since it was a Sunday, and we usually don’t come back home until the evening, I was worried about how we would manage to stay away from carbs!
***[See how I did on the first 3 days of the challenge] – You can read our motivation for doing this, as well as the details of the challenge at the link above. Our main goal is to lose 25lbs combined by June 4th, or there will be severe consequences! I am responsible for 15 of those pounds!***
Here is my assessment of day 4:
For the first week of the challenge, we decided to drastically reduce our carbohydrate intake to under 20 grams each day. I met the goal yesterday, even though it meant we had to spend money eating out (I think).
After our church service ended, we were invited to a friends house for lunch. The only problem is that they planned to order food from somewhere – they weren’t sure at the time. This meant that we ran the risk of either eating disgusting Chinese food, or going over our 20 grams of carbs for the day.
We already planned to go to Shoprite in order to buy groceries for the week, and my wife remembered that they have a salad bar with a good amount of ‘fixins’. So, we decided to go to Shoprite and make a couple of salads and maybe some meat.
My salad was great – it included chicken, sunflower seeds, feta cheese, grapes, and hard-boiled eggs. Then I picked up a piece of Salisbury steak as well. I only ate half of the salad yesterday, and the Salisbury steak.
When we got home in the early evening, I had tuna fish over sliced pepperjack cheese. It was pretty good.
I wasn’t able to drink a full gallon of water yesterday, but since we are so busy on the weekends, that will be hard to accomplish.
Something happened to my stomach yesterday (and it’s still going on now) that got worse into the evening. That ruined any chance of going through my alternate workout plan. I started to feel bad before eating, so I don’t think it was anything from Shoprite that did it.
Since we actually purchased prepared food in the afternoon, I am counting that as eating out. Although, it was definitely much better than buying a fast food burger and removing the bun.
We still went back to Shoprite in the evening and purchased our groceries, so I’m not too concerned about lunch. Because of how we handled being away from home and having to eat healthy, I think we had a very good day.
There was really no temptation to eat out (the terrible kind) today! We just took care of business and God blessed our efforts to be disciplined.
