Yesterday was the fifth day of the first Fat Guy Challenge. You may remember that yesterday I told you that my stomach started feeling bad during the day on Sunday. Well, it went from bad to terrible during the late evening and didn’t improve at all by the morning. Therefore, I had to stay home from work. That threw me off, but I was able to improvise.
***[See how I did on the first 4 days of the challenge] – You can read our motivation for doing this, as well as the details of the challenge at the link above. Our main goal is to lose 25lbs combined by June 4th, or there will be severe consequences! I am responsible for 15 of those pounds!***
Here is my assessment of day 5:
For the first week of the challenge, we decided to drastically reduce our carbohydrate intake to under 20 grams each day. Even though my day was completely thrown off by how I felt, I was still able to meet my goal.
Because I felt so bad, I didn’t eat until close to noon, when my wife and I had lunch. I actually had an individual serving of string cheese around 10 or so. We ate salad and something else, affectionately known in our household as “chicken yum-yums”. It’s essentially breaded chicken stuffed with cream cheese.
I also tried to eat some of the salad that I had left from Sunday, but only made it through about 4 bites. I think that all of the strong flavors (especially the feta cheese and green olives) were too much for my stomach. For dinner, we made burgers on our George Foreman Grill (look at the pictures below), and put them on top of a bed of lettuce – it was pretty good.
Then, I got hungry late at night and I made a wrap with chicken Vienna Sausages, American cheese, and mustard.
I drank a lot of water yesterday, but I think I fell short of my goal – which is at least a gallon per day.
Because of how I felt, I knew better than to try to work out! My goal is to get to bed early on Tuesday, so I can start my workout routine on Wednesday morning.
There was really no temptation to eat out (the terrible kind) today! We just took care of business and God blessed our efforts to be disciplined. <— I am hoping to be able to write that phrase every day of this challenge!
Why We Love Our George Foreman Grill
As I mentioned above, we grilled a couple of hamburgers on our George Foreman Grill last night. I just want you to see how much fat and grease was collected in the little tray…
Isn’t that gross? You can click on the picture to get a better view of it! Most of the time, all of that garbage goes right into our system – I’m so glad that I don’t eat burgers often. If we move to an apartment that has a patio, we are considering getting a small grill, just for that reason!
