Once again it’s time for me to look back on the last 7 days and reflect on the progress (or lack thereof) I made toward my health and fitness goals for 2014. Because I have been so busy lately, this is my first chance to sit and think about how this week has gone…
A Recap Of The Past Week
Last week was my best week in a while as far as sleep is concerned. Don’t misunderstand that statement. It doesn’t mean that I am now getting 6-8 hours of sleep; it just means that I was able to fall asleep at around midnight, rather than the usual 2-4am. 😯
With that small amount of improvement with my sleep, I was able to wake up for a couple of early morning gym sessions! Because I am dealing with an extremely tight lower back, I wasn’t able to deadlift all week, and I had to drop the weight on my squats. 🙁
As far as my running is concerned, I definitely tried to take advantage of the warmer weather last week. I got out there for a few runs, but they were all shortened by the extreme tightness in the muscles around my shin (only on the left side). As with my run the other week, my leg was so tight that it felt swollen and I could barely flex my foot! I am going to have to do a ton of running this summer in order to make my 500-mile challenge for the year.
What has me disappointed about these physical limitations is that they weren’t based on me not being strong or conditioned enough. I didn’t stop running because I was too winded or tired and I didn’t alter my lifting because my strength failed me. So having the amount of effort I put out determined by something I couldn’t control was a little disappointing.
I plan to spend a lot of time doing mobility exercises and stretching so that I can fix these problems.
As I was pushing through a cold run the other day, I began to reflect on all that I am able to do. I believe that the Holy Spirit impressed upon my heart the fact that even with the injuries and other physical setbacks, I am still able to do more than I was a few years ago and definitely more than many people!
I am definitely blessed to be able to go into a gym and throw around a few hundred pounds at will, or lace up my running shoes and propel almost 240lbs around the streets!
I think I recovered very well from that weekend where my food addiction took over and lead to a few days of binge eating. I was able to put it behind me after that horrible workout session last Monday.
I ate well for the entire week, and I felt so much more in control. We went shopping and I was able to make my meals in advance, and that played a big difference in the week. To be honest, I’ve gotten into a groove with my meals and making them the night before is usually the first thing I do when I get home.
Week 14 Weigh In
Last week I weighed in at 238.2, which was a gain of 1.2lbs from the previous week. This week when I weighed myself, I was…
As I assumed last week, the gain that I saw was directly related to my weekend of bad eating, and once I got back into my regular habits, my weight fell once again.
I know that I won’t be very active this week because of the problems mentioned above, but I will give it my best. I have to see my doctor this week – a follow up visit to check the progress of my testosterone replacement therapy – and I will be sure to give you guys an update.
I had a huge meal the night before weighing myself, so that’s what I think was going on here. If that is the case, I should see this number go down fairly quickly.
Actually, I am expecting to have a great week both in the gym and with my nutrition; so despite what happened this weekend (the post about it will be up on Friday), I am very excited about the next few weeks!
