I’m sitting here at my mechanic’s shop once again. Yes, my car has overheated again! I have written before about having to bring many car to the mechanic at least 4 times in the last 2 months.
During this time we have replaced practically the entire cooling system – including the radiator! The cost for all of this has been about $1,600, countless hours on the road to and from the shop, and who knows how much gas and wear & tear on both of our vehicles.
After more than a week without any problems my car overheated again. I was waiting for a day off before calling my mechanic so I could schedule a time to take it up there. So I had to drive my wife’s car – which needs work done as well – in the meantime.
While I was waiting for a day off, my mechanic called me to check on the car. He told me that someone brought a car like mine (just one year older) in with the same exact problems. They found air in her cooling system just like mine!
This prompted him to check the internet to see if this problem was common. He not only found tons of complaints in forums and other places, but he also discovered that this is something that GM knows about but are choosing to ignore.
Anyway, they are checking the car now to see if I have the same problem as that other car. In fact he just called me in to show me what he thinks is the cause of the problem. They have to look further to be sure.
I’ll update you guys when we know what the next step is.
